International Bible Contests for Youth The process for Chidon coordinators to choose national champions to compete in the Bible contests varies from country to country. Most countries administer an exam on chapters from the Bible which will be tested on in the International competitions, in the participants’ native language, or in Hebrew. Each country may send 1-4 (roughly high school aged) participants, depending on the size of its Jewish community. The national winners participate in a two week Bible camp, usually in April. The 2017 Bible camp will take place from April 23 and will end on May 8. The participants tour Israel, meet Israeli leaders (including the Prime Minister), compete in the International and Diaspora Contests, and meet fellow Jewish teenagers from all over the world. The Jewish Agency and other groups generously cover all related costs. In the camp there are (optional) prayers 3 times a day, all food is kosher, and Shabbat is observed. Two contests take place: the International Contest (Chidon Tanach Olami) and the special contest for students from the Diaspora (Chidon Tfutzot). A few days after the participants arrive in the camp, they take an exam (in the language of their choice). [Note: The material for the 2017 contest may be found below.] The top 16 contestants compete in the International Contest, which is held annually on Israeli Independence Day (May 2, 2017) in the Jerusalem Theater, and will be broadcast on national television. Two days later, the Diaspora competition is held. This competition also includes 16 contestants, all of them from the Diaspora. These are the next top 16 contestants; only one student per country may join this contest. The 2017 Diaspora competition will take place on May 4, 2017 in Kiryat Shmona. Both competitions will be streamed live, so that family and friends who live abroad may participate in this experience. There are several high achieving Chidon alumni who are offering one-time consulting meetings, in English, Hebrew and Spanish. These meetings can be used to discuss study strategies, memory tips, stress tips and more. If you are interested in this free service, please contact us.
